The Importance of Bible Study << BACK

Teacher: Rev. R. Woods-Barrant, Pastor

Tonight we resume studying God’s holy work during this, the 2021-2022 Conference Year, it is fitting that we take the time to discuss the many reasons we choose to do so. It is my contention that the Covid-19 Pandemic has given new urgency for studying the Bible, both the fact that it is still with us in spite of our having multiple vaccines, and the fact that it has waxed and waned in severity but has never not been deadly. In light of these facts, I submit to you that there is an urgency to studying of God’s holy word which is necessary part of having a relationship with God, something we can’t do without during these perilous times.

Tonight, we will also discuss what each member of our Bible Study Group finds beneficial about studying the Bible. pursuitbible.com says the purpose of Bible Study is to bring instruction, conviction, correction, and training in God's ways so you can be equipped for every good work (2 Tim. 3:16-17). It also goes on to list 21 other benefits of studying the Bible, I have listed 10 of them below.

1) Receiving Direction - Psalm 119:105

2) Answered Prayer - John 15:7

3) Strengthened Faith - Romans 10:17

4) Resistance to Temptation - Psalm 119:11

5) Clarity of Thought - Hebrews 4:12

6) Wisdom Beyond Your Years - Psalm 119:99

7) Cleansing - Ephesians 5:26

8) Others Are Impacted - Colossians 3:16

9) Victory In Spiritual Warfare - Ephesians 6:17

10) Endurance and Encouragement - Romans 15:4

It is my prayer that discussing the above has enhanced your thirst for God’s holy word. Please contact me with topics, themes or scriptures you would like us to look at this year. I can exclusively select what we study as I have in previous years but I wanted to give you an opportunity to weigh in, I make no promises that I will use all suggestions but I will consider each one.
