Revisiting a town of faith:
John Wesley AME Zion Church in North Attleboro

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The members of the town's John Wesley AME Zion Church, located in the middle of single and multiple family homes, meet each week in person and via the Zoom.

Pastor Robin Woods-Barrant and long-time member and historian Rachel Garvin joined North TV to discuss the structure, denomination, membership and history of the John Wesley AME Zion Church. 

Join Us for Service via Zoom!

You can join us every Sunday via Zoom. Sunday School starts at 9:45 am, and Worship Service is at 11:00 am. Please sign on 5 minutes before 9:45 am so that Zoom can be in place to start our Service on time. Also, all participants please mute yourselves to minimize background noise and echoes. You should be able to unmute yourself if needed.

In the News 

John Wesley Church was pleased to host a training seminar for persons seeking ordination in the New England Conference of the A.M.E. Zion denomination.

Harriet Tubman was the leader of the Underground Railroad, a spy and nurse during the civil war. Her homestead is a national treasure long recognized as such by the AME Zion Church and recently by the United States government.

John Wesley was pleased to host the Boston District of the AME Zion Church for it’s organizational meeting on June 30, 2018.

Pastor Woods-Barrant 

Pastor Woods-Barrant has been a minister in the AME Zion Church for over 30 years and has been the pastor at the John Wesley AME Zion Church, North Attleboro, Massachusetts since June, 2013.  


Pastor Woods-Barrant is a native of Waterbury, Connecticut where she received her early education. She furthered her education at Smith College, Yale University Divinity School, and the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. 


Prior to her first pastoral charge in 2007, Pastor Woods-Barrant served as an evangelist for more than 20 years in the New England Conference, the Michigan Conference, and then returned to the New England Conference. 


Pastor Woods-Barrant is a former college chaplain and a former hospital chaplain. Pastor Woods-Barrant is bi-vocational, in addition to her church work, she ministers to God’s people in her capacity as a licensed clinical social worker. Rev. Woods has also written for the STAR OF ZION, the denomination’s newspaper, since the early 1990s.


Pastor Woods-Barrant is married to Dr. Peter Barrant and they are the proud parents of three children: Maya Renay, Peter Trevor, and Jayden Ryan.
